Work one on one with private tutoring clients
Designed and taught weekly lesson plans for discussion section Wrote, proctored, and graded quizzes and exams
Created a positive learning environment by encouraging student collaboration
In earning my chemistry degree, I completed a full year of each general chemistry, honors organic chemistry, biochemistry, and specialized chemistry courses in addition to several classes focused on science education practices. I built on my experience as a chemist and educator by earning a graduate degree in education.
As a chemistry teaching assistant, I attended countless lectures, taught weekly discussion sections, wrote and graded quizzes and exams, and worked closely with the professors, so I know exactly what is expected from their students.
Having tutored chemistry courses for over nine years now, I have a lot of insight into what students struggle with and consistently receive positive feedback regarding my tutoring approach and subject matter expertise. I also bring additional expertise with my decade+ of work experiences in biomedical research and graduate admissions - both of which are often relevant to the students I work with.
I use Calendly for all bookings. For new students, please book a consultation call or send me an email so we can connect and ensure that working together is the right fit for you!
After our first meeting, we'll set a weekly recurring meeting with flexibility to add extra sessions before exams.
I charge on an hourly basis for the time we spend together in sessions, and this encompasses additional support outside of session time including my preparation for your session, creating your custom study plans, and email questions.
Please reach out for my current rates.
I use Google Meet for online video sessions, and a virtual whiteboard so that we can collaborate on practice problems. I'll always have my video on in virtual sessions. For students in the Seattle area, I have some availability to meet in person at the UW library.
It varies depending on my students' needs - generally we'll alternate between bite sized explanations of concepts and a focus on working through practice problems collaboratively. No long one-sided lectures! The key to succeeding in chemistry is practice, practice, practice. And working together with an experienced tutor helps you get through many practice problems a lot more efficiently.
Please feel free to email me at chem.w.christine@gmail.com and I'm happy to talk more about whether working with me would be a good fit for you or your student.
